My 10th book, Delivering The Dream, is just what South African public sector executives need as delivery protests spread.
Released by Zebra Books in early August 2007, Delivering The Dream deals with strategy design and execution in government, parastatals, and other public sector entities - and specifically those in South Africa. It challenges popular practices, explains why management fads from the private sector might not be best in the public sector, shows where planning goes wrong, and suggests a streamlined approach to designing and implementing strategy. Hopefully, people at all levels will find it useful.
In the Foreword, respected political analyst Van Zyl Slabbert writes: "... if only half of his suggestions are taken seriously by key public servants, South Africa would be making tangible progress. This book is an absolute necessity for every bureaucrat who has power and takes his/her job on delivery seriously."
Although I aimed this book specifically at the public sector, executives in business and academia have found it very useful as the core principles apply across organizations.
